We have a cultural of violence that goes beyond just change in the types of video games we market or gun control or funding more behavioral treatment. Our culture promotes intolerance and violence and is promotive of violent reaction. We see it every day in the kind of discourse our congressmen and women have with one another. We see it in the proliferation and great visability of hate groups that attempt to take the form of religion and politics. As a nation we have lost respect for our fellow man. As some scholors mention, we need to return to a "community voice" reminisn't of what we had in the 50s that echoed caring for community and ones neighbors, even if they didn't always share the same beleifs or prolitics. We expected civility then and we need to return to this cultural norm.
