4 million kids enter kindergarten each year in the US. It is estimated that 52% from low-income families are unprepared to meet kindergarten expectations since most can only afford poor quality preschools
Research shows that a child's brain develops more between the ages of 1-5 than any other time. Studies also show that children who attend a high quality preschool program are much more likely to be successful later in life, through college and careers
The Dept of Education says that in 2015, only 4 out of 10 children in this country were able to attend publicly funded preschool, thus contributing to unpreparedness. The government needs to intervene and provide preschools for low-income children, with qualified, educated teachers, so that they do not start kindergarten at a disadvantage
