We call on the President, and the United States Congress, to lift the ban on federal funding for research into the impact of firearm ownership on public health and public safety.
Americans are demanding effective policy responses to reduce violent crime and the frequency of gun violence. The best hope for a successful policy will come from quality research conducted by scientists funded without political interference.
Conducting such research is presently impossible in the United States due to censorious language inserted into appropriations bills for research centers and grant making institutions. For more information see the Journal of the AMA: http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=148747
