Fund research into new alternative methods of nuclear waste management.

The US federal government must fund research into new methods of nuclear waste management. The average US spent fuel pool holds seven times the radiation in one Fukushima pool, which are equal to roughly ten times the radiation released in all of the Chernobyl disaster. Thus the average US fuel pool has about 70 times the radiation released at Chernobyl. If a relatively small pool caught fire, say the one at Vermont Yankee's plant (which has small problems (the cooling towers fall down)) it would permanently irradiate and render inhabitable an area of 22,000 square miles. Hugely seismically active San Onofre has about 8 times that. None of our current or proposed methods work.
Maine Yankee (relatively little waste), sued the US gov't for $82million, is only one of 39 states that could sue.
