The New York Times recently posed a question on an article reporting on the famine in Somalia; "Is the world about to watch 750,000 Somalis starve to death?"
We have not, as a global community, made prevention of hunger a priority. As a consequence, today in the Horn of Africa, we are witnessing a humanitarian disaster with profound consequences for the region. The scale of these famines can be mitigated if we are willing to invest in prevention.
We call on the administration to fund the "Roadmap to End Global Hunger" which is a plan developed to cut global hunger by half in 5 years. Go to WFP's site at http://usa.wfp.org/sites/default/files/u-22/roadmap_0.pdf for specific suggested US funding levels per year.
A well-fed world is a productive, safer, and more moral global community.
