fund the sequester cuts with monthly furloughs for each member of Congress, the President and the VP, until it ends.

Created by M.W. on March 04, 2013

While we may debate which side is more responsible for the sequester and its mandatory budget cuts, the bottom line is that the sequester represents irresponsible governance. Regardless of when the sequester's effects will be felt on a large scale, the American economy is not best served by a legislative game of "chicken". Since the sequester will lead to furloughs for many cash-strapped middle class Americans, it seems only fair that Congress and the Executive Branch experience the same cuts. It might mean less to them, but furloughs for these politicians might help them remember that they are supposed to represent ordinary people and not their parties or corporate donors first. At the very least, it will help meet the cuts sooner rather than later.
