In the timeframe of one hour, the earth is hit with enough solar energy (approximately 439.5 exajoules) that would provide the entire planet with electricity for an entire year (currently the population of earth consumes about 62.5 exajoules per year). Solar Technology has become close to affordable and would benefit greatly with backing from the Obama Administration to perfect this technology that would provide not just the United States, but the world in general with virtually a limitless supply of energy/electricity, which is something that the world sorely needs right now.
