Due to the Federal Budget Control Act of 2011, Subsidized Stafford Loans are being discontinued for graduate and professional students after July 1, 2012. Federal Direct Subsidized loans are awarded based on financial need and do not accrue interest while the student is enrolled at least half time. We need to facilitate graduate and professional education in order to close the skills gap. Discontinuing Subsidized Stafford Loans puts an even greater burden on future job creators in the face of rising tuition costs and increasing interest rates.
