We feel that violence is not the most effective way to achieve positive social change.
We would like a way for thoughtful citizens who are committed to the ideals of freedom and democracy to support those ideals in a manner consistent with their own beliefs. Our vision is that of a nonviolent army-- a trained, disciplined force that can mobilize and intervene in areas of crisis, leveraging international goodwill and a sincere desire to develop mutually acceptable solutions to conflict.
A nonviolent force could be utilized in nearly any situation in which armed forces are currently utilized. While we acknowledge the risk of placing unarmed Americans in volatile situations, we feel that the benefits outweigh the risks and request the opportunity to test our beliefs.
