Countries across the world are turning to high speed rail for a 21st century transportation infrastructure. France has the TGV, Germany has the ICE, Japan has the Shinkansen, and China recently opened the world's longest high speed rail line. America needs a high speed rail network comparable to those of Europe and China.
Building a high speed rail system 10669 miles in length over 30 years would consume 0.58 percent of the federal budget. However, once complete, this system would pay for itself quickly, as more and more people turned to trains instead of highways, and the highways needed less repair.
