National standards for ambulance response times are 7 to 8 minutes, in most counties response times average 30 to 45 minutes. Response time increases are often due to shortage of ambulances within the county or shortage of manpower. Many rural counties have limited infrastructure and are unable to support a large staff. Other counties area so vest in size that response to outreaches requires long drives. Other problems that effect long response times are hospital locations. A Level One Trauma Center is often an hour away. Small Advance Life Support stations around the county can reduce response times. This station can operate much as the Volunteer Fire Departments operate.
