Gun Safety for the protection of US citizens can be accomplished by doing simple reference checks when a person is interested in purchasing a gun. The background check is simply not enough to prevent someone from committing atrocities. A reference check would alert the gun shop owner of the risk involved in selling a gun to someone not mentally prepared to handle ownership.
