Ever wonder why European countries have more efficient cars than we do? Why Portugal has a wave energy farm and we don't? Why Germany produces 15 times more solar power than us? Why the United States only gets 3% of its electricity from renewables?
It's because of oil, gas, and coal subsidies. There are special tax rates for large energy companies. That's Big Brother saying “we know what's best for you” instead of letting demand drive the market.
Government needs to reverse course and start being smart with tax incentives. Not only would this move create thousands of jobs, but fossil fuels won't be around for ever and this needs to be recognized.
