In 1996 the discriminatory "Defense of Marriage Act" known as DOMA was passed in to law in direct violation of the 14th amendment of the US Constitution. Since then, the Respect for Marriage act has been introduced to reverse this law that has already been declared unconstitutional. It took less time to enact DOMA than it is to repeal it and it is time for Congress to stop procrastinating the inevitable. Repeal DOMA and grant same-sex couples all rights and liberties afforded to heterosexual couples. "Separate but Equal" has been proven not to work and it is no different for the LGBT community. Get congress to repeal DOMA and take a stand for equality under the laws of this nation!
