During the Bush administration Congress passed a rule stating that US Federal agencies, such as Medicare and the Veterans Administration, would not be allowed to negotiate for better prices with drug manufacturers.
This means that drug makers can charge these agencies whatever they want and the US government and you the taxpayers have to pay that amount. Canada and Great Britain have much lower drug costs because they CAN negotiate. Why should we pay hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars more for a drug than other countries?
This rule benefits no one but the drug manufacturers.
Insurance companies can negotiate lower prices but Medicare can't?
This affects everyone on Social Security, Medicare and our Veterans.
Let's get this rule thrown out and get what we deserve!
