We the people ask the federal government to Change an existing Administration policy:

Get rid of the 12 month deferral on MSM (men who have sex with men) blood donation

Created by C.D. on December 05, 2016

As it stands now, the current FDA regulation is to "Defer for 12 months from the most recent contact a man who has had sex with another man during the past 12 months." This deferral period is unnecessary for a variety of reasons: it is not scientifically valid due to the increased treatment and testing for HIV/AIDS, this deferral supports the ongoing prejudice against the gay population, and this deferral period goes against the Equal Protections clause laid out in the US Constitution that protects minority individuals and affords them the rights granted to all citizens. The current FDA regulation denies healthy members of the gay community from donating blood which is unconstitutional and and should be changed to afford all healthy citizens the right to donate, regardless of sexuality.
