While the electoral college has been a tradition engraved within the history of the United States, the electoral college now has created confusion and debate. The origin of the electoral college was to protect the less populated states from the more populated states but these states are still ignored under this system. The Gore vs. Bush supreme court case has also shown us that this system simply creates red tape that is no longer necessary in our more connected world.
