Get rid of mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent offenses

Thousands of Americans are in prisons for decades, or even life, for petty offenses such as drug possession due to unfair mandatory minimum sentencing and three strikes laws. Not only are these individuals robbed of their entire lives, but incarcerating them is also wasting money and contributing to the United State's status as the country with the largest prison population. These individuals are in no way a threat to society, and should be released, but due to laws that take away the power of the judge to sentence different individuals based on legitimate case factors, they may never see the outside of a prison cell.
