Due to the current nature of inflation, no practical transactions involve the penny. It costs more to make than it is worth, and is generally a burden to carry and count. Transactions can function just as well being rounded to the nearest nickel and charitable donations do not decrease when people don't have pennies. This is simply a longstanding government oversight that needs to be fixed. The savings will not be monumental, but streamlining our currency and transactions will improve the business and leisure purchases for all US citizens.
