As I'm sure you know, student loan interest rates doubled today from 3.4 to 6.8 percent on government subsidized Stafford loans. I urge you to put aside partisan politics and work with your colleagues to pass a retroactive fix to rollback this unacceptable and ridiculous burden on students. Furthermore, longterm reforms to student debt and the faster-than-inflation rise of higher education tuition need to be proposed and implemented. An solution that ties student loan interest rates to the open market with no upper-cap is unjust and does not save my generation from the severely economically limiting effects of higher education costs.
