Currently the health plan set up for 9/11 First Responders under the Zadroga Bill does not cover cancer. The first responders dug through rubble in truly horrific conditions searching for our friends and loved ones. We owe it to them, and to ourselves, to take care of them now.
The plan managers have given the excuse that there is no causal link between inhaling all kinds of toxins and getting cancer. Who cares? They were there for us, so we should be there for them. We might accidentally treat someone who didn't get cancer while acting heroically, but I don't see that as a problem.
Let's do right by these people and prove that our American spirit is capable of great acts of courage AND compassion. Cancer coverage should be added to the plan immediately.
