Since drunk drivers kill more people on average every year than criminals with firearms according to the DOT and CDC, why is alcohol is being ignored as an assult weapon. On average 12000 people including innocent children are killed every year by drunk drivers compared to the 8583 killed by guns in 2011. Includeing domestic violence against women and children with all other alcohol related deaths, the number was over 24000 people killed in 2009. Why are there no Presidential committees, protests in the streets, and other cries for the ban of alcohol? It makes more sense to require citizens to register their alcohol purchases and submit to background checks before allowing them to buy alcohol than guns. The lives of children killed by drunk drivers are no less important or tragic.
