Gun enthusiasts often coddle the second amendment when arguing against gun regulation. The issues we currently face with guns are not second amendment issues as no reasonable group ( majority of Americans) is arguing for a ban on guns.
I think the government should expand the second amendment by giving every citizen that passes a background check and exam a free musket as that is the gun the framers envisioned when the law was written 200 years ago. I say we modernize the musket to make it suitable for hunting, protection etc. and ban most other guns. This would render the 2nd amendment argument ineffective. Despite the law expansion, gun advocates would still overwhelmingly object proving that the debate is not about the 2nd amendment but about uncompromising people having their way
