Alzheimer's disease, the number six leading cause of death in the United States, does not get the attention and treatment for what it is. There are many misinterpretations of what Alzheimer's is. Plain and simple, the disease is the deterioration of the human brain and its cognitive functions. Along with the misinterpretations, Alzheimer's has an increasing death toll (almost 85,000 deaths per year) and research of a cure ($566 million) is underfunded. Alzheimer's care, however, is over $203 billion, so research is less than one percent of what care is. The funding that goes into Alzheimer's disease, specifically the research of a cure or prevention, is completely unbalanced. If Alzheimer's got an increase in funding, more could be done in the research on Alzheimer's disease.
