Americans pay far too much for a slower internet connection than the rest of the world. They enjoy on average a download speed of 22.4 Mbps and an upload speed of 7.3 Mbps. These internet speeds are often dwarfed by network speeds of hundreds of Mbps worldwide.
Requiring internet providers to allow other internet providers to use their infrastructure would solve this problem. As the situation stands right now, many customers are left with one or two options for who they use for their internet provider. This allows the telecom companies to monopolize their areas and limit competition. If internet providers were required to compete with other providers over customers, it would drive down costs and increase data speeds. This would benefiting all customers in the process
