Please legislate civil rights for all animals kept by human beings to make it a federal crime to allow suffering of animals. This would pertain to animals kept in agriculture, research, circuses, and zoos. Make it a felony to mistreat animals with serious penalties for violation of their rights to enjoy humane treatment. Beginning with research; abolish the use of animals in research immediately. Protect animals who give commercial products like dairy and eggs to give them humane and enjoyable lives. Bring a coalition of scientists who have observed the sentient nature of animals together with spiritual/religious counselors to oversee the keeping of animals to ensure a code of rights similar to what human beings enjoy.
