Humans receive death penalties for killing other humans, yet killing an animal means hardly anything to todays government. Abuse, neglect, and violence towards animals in todays world is a bigger issue than it is taken for. Give animals the same rights as humans. If a human kills an animal out of violence when the animal is not a threat, the human should be given life or the death penalty just as it would be if they killed another human. We ourselves are mammals, that makes us also animals, so what difference is there? We both feel emotion, breathe, and have a heart beat so we are all the same. If an unborn fetus can be considered life, then why are animals treated as mere objects?
