It is illegal to hit a dog and drive away from the scene without filing a report with the police. Cats are a part of the family just as much as dogs, and thus they deserve the same rights.
Losing a pet is bad enough. Knowing someone hit your animal and chose to leave it in the road to die is intolerable, and disgusting.
Our request is simple, please give cats equal rights to dogs. It should be illegal to hit someone's pet with your vehicle and drive off- period. Be it dog, or cat. The driver should be liable to file a police report. There have been many needless deaths due to the carelessness of drivers, many bodies in the road, and it needs to stop. There should be both a moral and legal obligation to be responsible for actions such as these.
