If financial institutions are allowed to collect interest (make money on student loans) just like consumer loans, then student loans should be dischargable under bankruptcy protection just as any other loan. People who find themselves struggling and forced into bankruptcy, DO NOT get a "fresh start" if they have student loans. After filing, there's a negative credit rating and still the debt lingers. Financial institutions couldn't care less whether people are in a position to pay. Make these loans dischargable for people who have filed chapter 7 or 13 or who will file. Greedy CEO's, fund managers, etc. have caused the collapse of the American economy with little to no consequences and hard-working Americans who find themselves struggling get no break, no breather. Help the rest of us.
