Since it's founding in 1790, the Coast Guard has been an essential part of America's defense. In addition to protecting America's coasts, the Coast Guard performs daily search and rescue operations, saving countless lives. The Coast Guard also participates in wars overseas, and yet everyday the Coast Guard, a necessary part of our nation's security, goes unrepresented on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In 2011, a petition on We the People was successful in giving the National Guard a seat on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. That is why we petition the Obama administration to give the Coast Guard a seat on the Joint Chiefs of Staff in peace and in war. In addition, as all seven uniformed services of the United States can be militarized, the NOAA Corps and the PHSCC should also receive a seat on JCS.
