Give D.C. Residents Legitimate Representation in Congress

Created by M.S. on September 22, 2011

D.C. residents are denied voting representation in the House and Senate. That amounts to more than 500,000 United States citizens who pay full federal taxes and do not have a legitimate voice in Congress. No other democratic nation in the world denies the residents of its capital representation in the national legislature. This is a biparitsan issue that is fundamental to the foundation of our democracy.

According to the late Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, "The need for an amendment at this late date in our history is too self-evident for further elaboration; continued denial of voting representation from the District of Columbia can no longer be justified." The Obama Administration should urge Congress to take decisive action to end this injustice.
