Give disabled teachers the right to transfer their state retirement system credits to the federal social security system

If a teacher becomes disabled and is forced to leave the profession prior to retirement, he or she is ineligible to receive any monetary disability benefits from the Social Security Administration because the credits for retirement are contributed to their state teachers' retirement systems. If teachers have to leave early, due to medical disability, they also lose the ability to contribute to Social Security and have no options for financial security. Right now, the law forbids teachers to transfer the credits from their retirement to social security, which is the only federally funded disability system. Teachers essentially are being punished for becoming educators, instead of working in private enterprise, if they cannot work all the way to retirement due to medical disability.
