As an American citizen, Dzhokar Tsarnaev, is guaranteed due process by the Fifth, Sixth, and Fourteenth Amendments of the US Constitution as well as the US Supreme Court's decision in Miranda v. Arizona. We ask that he be given these rights.
We must prove to those who would wish us harm, to the world, and to ourselves that no matter how horrific an act, no matter how angry we are, and no matter how tempting it is we will not allow ourselves to compromise our fundamental principles of fairness, justice, and due process.
When John Adams defended those accused in the Boston Massacre, he proved that his fledgling nation would not be ruled by public outrage but by the law. We must demonstrate that this conviction is as strong today as it was at the birth of our nation.
