America is a free country based on freedom. You are free to do what you want as long as it doesn't limit someone else. examples: religion, state militia, free speech, freedom from unwarranted searches etc.
You do not have to exercise your rights, but by limiting someone else's ability to exercise their rights you become a tyrant. Tyranny against the laws of your country of citizenship publicly makes you a traitor and legally binds you to the punishment as such.
