In cases of disasters of any kind, most commonly weather emergencies, people already in vulnerable condition run out of maintenance medications and have trouble obtaining them while displaced. A regular extra supply of a few days of all maintenance medications would greatly reduce the number of cases where this occurs. Most prescription plans will not refill till a day or two before someone is out of medication. Allowing an extra supply of a few days then refilling when due after that would create a rolling safety net supply of vital medications in emergency situations such as Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy and the Christmas 2012 Ice Storm in the South.
