give up on a gun ban and create civilian armories nationwide instead.

How about a compromise on the gun control issue. Instead of enacting a tried-and-failed assault weapons ban, lets put most, if not all, of the guns into civilian armories, run by local police. You would then have to check out the weapon(s), clearly state your intentions, where you are going with the weapon, and what you're going to do with it. Plus, let's put electronic trackers, GPS, in the assault guns, so they can be tracked where they are going. It's the best of both worlds: gun owners can keep the assault rifles and the rest can sleep easier, knowing the guns are under lock and key.
P.S. Screw the Death Star, go with the starship USS Enterprise. It's got speed, not lumbering around waiting to blow up due to proton torpedoes entering through a small thermal exhaust port.
