Congressman John A. Bingham of Ohio (1815-1900) wrote the portion of Section One of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution that guarantees due process of law and the equal protection of the laws to all persons in the United States. We ask that you recognize Bingham's great contributions to liberty and equality by awarding him a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom to reaffirm our nation's commitment to these basic principles.
