Give a justifiable reason to why Marijuana remains illegal, while alcohol and tobacco are taxed and regulated.

Created by M.C. on December 27, 2012

Marijuana is illegal federally, despite much more understanding about the benefits from it. Alcohol and tobacco provide no benefits to anyone, yet they are regulated and taxed. Whenever asked the government will say something stereotypical like "Marijuana is a class 1 drug, and is therefore classified as a danger". This isn't an answer, we already know it's illegal. We want to why specifically. How do you justify the more dangerous substances tobacco and alcohol staying completely legal? We would also like your answer to be based on research outside of YOUR research.
