The NASA Commercial Crew Program offers an inexpensive alternative to huge pork-barrel programs like the Space Launch System, a rocket with essentially nowhere to go. The SLS takes over a billion dollars out of a shrinking NASA budget for what is essential a pork-producing :rocket to nowhere. Currently, our only means is through a stranglehold deal with the Russians...one which charges 70 million per seat.
The Commercial Crew program allows a FAR less expensive way to send our astronauts to space. It will allow us to have multiple flights a year to the underutilized ISS for a fraction of one SLS flight.
We have a ticking time bomb of overpopulation, diminishing resources, and environmental catastrophe. Our only sure hope is colonization of the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
