Pete Seeger has for decades been a leading human rights advocate. He has had an immeasurable influence on our culture, he has fought to protect the environment, he is the driving force behind the recent efforts to clean the Hudson River. Pete Seeger was in the Cold War unfairly punished for his beliefs, but he didn't flee and get bitter, he worked to improve the United States from the inside.
His leadership in areas as diverse as anti-war causes, environmental causes, civil rights and his contribution to the great American Songbook should not go unappreciated.
So please Mr. President, give Pete Seeger the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
