Give the president executive power to adopt a short term fiscal policy to avoid a "fiscal cliff" to protect the U.S.

A constitutional amendment should be created that gives the standing president the power to either make a decision or extend deadlines to avoid "fiscal cliffs." The president should have this right to protect the economy and all Americans. It should be established for a period of 90 days if parties fail to compromise, and extended if required. The standing president's policy should be adopted if the majority of Americans agree.
