Nearly 3 million former felons could not vote in 2010. These are men and women who have already paid their debt to society, yet are expected to continue paying for the rest of their lives by having their freedom of speech in the form of a vote silenced. While most states restore felons their rights, 10 may not, and some states have behavior that could suggest racial bias. The right to vote is fundamental and keeping that right away from former felons is cruel, unusual, and impedes upon the point of reincorporating former felons back into Society. I know voting is up to state discrepancy, but the states have failed to act appropriately and it is now necessary for the Federal government to intervene and give 3 million citizens their speech back once more.
