As the tax payers that contributed to the benefits that would be distributed and progressive minded citizens that believe in equality and progressive civil rights, we believe that Sally Ride’s partner of 27 years, Tam O’Shaughnessy, should receive survivor benefits in spite of what the extreme conservative DOMA supporters say. We believe that Sally Ride served this country honorably and loyally and Tam O’Shaughnessy stood by her side, supporting her along the way. Tam deserves the same survivor benefits that the partners of other NASA astronauts receive now and will receive in the future. We believe it is the right thing to do and hope that the Obama administration will choose equality and civil liberties over non-progressive laws that keep our society at a civil standstill.
