Robina Asti is a trans woman and a veteran of WWII. When her spouse died nine years after their marriage, the SSA denied her survivor benefits, citing that she was "legally male." She had her identification legally changed to female years earlier. A law firm has been working on the case, but they still haven't received any communication from the SSA. Robina Asti, and other trans individuals, should not be barred from collecting their benefits, especially when they took action to make the change legal.
