Quite a few native American tribes were displaced from their homelands during the gold rush and other Westward movement of Europeans. Over time things settled down and a few cities grew in the West. Much of the rest of the "unused" land was designated as Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land and some became national forest land.
There are literally millions of acres of BLM land in the West that our government pays people to manage. When fires break out on this land we spend millions of dollars fighting them.
Who better to manage these lands than those who originally occupied them. Let's do the right thing and restore native lands where possible. This is our chance to right one of wrongs of American History.
