Give veterans jobs and improve gun safety by hiring veterans to teach weapon safety instead of banning certain firearms.

Created by R.R. on January 29, 2013

Instead of banning sale of so-called "assault weapons," require that citizens who want to be part of the "well-organized militia" mentioned in the 2nd Amendment to take a weapons safety course run by military veterans or other qualified people such as former police officers.
This will provide jobs, and ensure that people who want to bear arms know how to do so safely.
This will not completely eradicate gun violence, just like having traffic safety rules and driver's licenses does not eliminate car accidents or vehicular manslaughter. We don't ban cars, we just ensure that people that operate them know how to do so safely. Similarly, we should ensure that gun owners are well-trained in weapons safety, not take away their right to own them.
