The United States, the wealthiest nation in the world, is one of 2 nations that offers the least to new mothers, next to Papua New Guinea. New mothers receive only 12 weeks of UNPAID leave when they either have, or adopt, a child. This leaves many families struggling to support themselves, and it also devalues the role of women in society and damages the chances children have in the future. Children who have their mother home with them for the first year of life often develop better social skills, than if they are either alone or left in a daycare. If this government wants the American family to succeed, then enforcing 1-year of PAID leave will help. The rest of the world is a step ahead, it's time America catches up with them.
