The FDA is proposing new nutritional information labeling on food, but the proposal excludes any mention of GMO ingredients. This is despite the stated purpose of the new labeling being, according to the FDA's own officials, who said "the primary goal of the proposed changes to the Nutrition Facts label is not to tell people what they should be eating, but to expand and highlight the information they most need when making food choices. "It's all about providing information that people can use to make their own choices."
These are the exact same reasons that GMO-free advocates have championed for GMO labeling.
The labeling changes will cost an estimated $2 billion. Cost was one of the reasons raised by those opposing GMO labeling. This is the opportunity to make GMO disclosure mandatory
