Go Before Congress to Call for a Voting Rights Act that Protects Voters in All States

Created by E.R. on June 26, 2013

By gutting section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, the Supreme Court did away with a protection that is still needed. Stating that Congress was acting on old information and that the South is being unfairly targeted, Supreme Court justices ignored the extensive Congressional report that was based on 2006 evidence.

Reverend Jesse Jackson has called on President Obama to speak before Congress, just as Lyndon B. Johnson did to get the Voting Rights Act passed. President Obama, make this a priority and speak before Congress immediately. Ask that the Voting Rights Act be ammended to cover all states that have demonstrated abuses. All Americans deserve the right to vote and to have that vote count.
