government regulation of oil companies

government regulation for fuel costs,
How is it that we continue to watch fuel costs rise and not do any research..The oil companies are making "RECORD" profits, so why does the cost of fuel keep rising? If the government should regulate anything at all it should be the prices the oil companies are able to charge us to get to work and make reduced salaries, to commute so that our pensions can be taken away, to get back and forth from school only to find that upon graduation there are no jobs to be had..Obviously, the last three examples are true but the fact remains that in one of the worst economic times in our history these companies are making ridiculous amounts of money while we suffer. Sign on and lets see if our government really cares about us the way they say they do.
